Revelations of a "toad-monitor-lizard-like creature"

I first caught sight of the creature on Monday. As I was nearing the end of the gravel walkway, a flash of movement caught my eye. AND THERE, to the horror of my horrors, something fat, heavy-looking, scaly (note: disgusting) began to move. I could catch a glimpse its fat legs, and it disappeared into a hole in the walkway. I changed my direction, and side-stepped the walkway to walk on the grass. Surely anything on the grass has to be less scary and shocking than what camouflauges with the gravel walkway.

From that day on, I've avoided the walkway totally.

Come to think of it, very often, that it what our reaction will be when we are gripped by fear. We try and hide from it, and the more we try, the more it comes back to haunt us (note: I had another sighting of the creature on Wednesday....even though I was off the walkway...). We would do all sorts of things to avoid it, in this case, doing a detour by the grass instead of walking on the "nice" walkway. We even feel silly and stupid that we are traumatised by such issues, but even so, its still bugging us.

As you can guess, after that I haven't enjoy walking out my house at all. The gravel walkway is just below my unit. To an exaggerated extent, I feel crippled.

Oh, and how often would the devil throw some of our worst fears into our lives to cripple us. How often would it cause us to avoid doing the good things, the best things, the right things and settle for some dodgy way. In my case, if the gravel walkway was the road that God had designated for me, and just because of some fear I changed course, in the end I will not have lived out what He intended for me. I would not have enjoyed the walk as much. Most importantly, deep down, I would know that I was defeated by this issue, and I'll feel wimpy, knowing that I had never ever had a chance against it.

If God is for us, who can be against us? Rom 8:31 Yes, if the Almighty is for us who can be against us? If the Giver of life is for us, can death be against us? If the Prince of Peace is for me, what trouble can overwhelm me? If the Giver of blessings is for me, what curse can beheld me? If the Source of joy is on my side, what depressing situations can break me? If hope and strength is for me, what examination stress/assignment worries can overcome me? If the creator of all creatures is for me, can some fat scaly disgusting thing be against me?

*******

Footnote: The author has yet to figure out what to do with the creature at the bottom of her walkway. However, she was inspired enough to write a post on it. Guess God can do wonders in the midst of all things. =)
